چکیده

Introduction Abstract: We investigated the extent of multiple paternity within and between fruits of the common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca, at one site. Using isozyme polymorphisms at four loci and the maximum likelihood methods of Williams and Evarts (1989), we found no statistical evidence for multiple paternity within fruits. When pairs of fruits obtained from individual ramets were analyzed in a similar manner, extensive multiple paternity was observed, indicating that fruits on the same ramet are sired by different paternal parents. This extensive multiple paternity between fruits provides considerable opportunity for maternal choice via selective fruit abortion.

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci in the common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca (Apocynaceae).

PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite primers were developed for the common milkweed, Asclepias syriaca L., to assist in genet identification and the analysis of spatial genetic structure. METHODS AND RESULTS Using an enrichment cloning protocol, eight microsatellite loci were isolated and characterized in a Michigan population of A. syriaca. The primers amplified di- and trinucleotide repeats ...

Acylated-oxypregnane glycosides from the roots of Asclepias syriaca.

Twenty new pregnane glycosides were obtained from the roots of Asclepias syriaca L. (Asclepiadaceae). These glycosides were confirmed to contain ikemagenin, 12-O-nicotinoyllineolon, 5alpha,6-dihydroikemagenin, and 12-O-tigloylisolineolon, as their aglycones, using both spectroscopic and chemical methods.

Natural selection on common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) by a community of specialized insect herbivores

Hypothesis: Genetic variation in plant defence structures a community of herbivores and ultimately mediates co-evolution. Organisms: Common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) and five natural insect herbivores (seed bug, leaf mining fly, monarch caterpillar and two beetles). Methods: Quantitative genetic field experiment over 2 years, genetic selection analyses, and measurement of five defensive trai...
